As an Anglican Church our beliefs are well and clearly articulated in the Historic Creeds, the 39 Articles of Religion and above all the Bible (see Article VI on the Supremacy and Sufficiency of the Holy Scriptures). Some of the key ideas can be summarised here:-
God is the triune God - one God in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God is sovereign in creation, revelation, redemption and final judgement. (see Article I)
The Bible, as originally given, is the inspired and infallible Word of God. The Old and New Testament Scriptures were authenticated by Jesus and are therefore the supreme authority for the Church in all matters of faith and conduct. (see Article VI)
Since the fall, the whole of humankind is sinful and guilty and therefore subject to God's wrath and condemnation. (see Article IX)
Jesus is perfectly and fully both God and man, with God in eternity but took to himself human nature at the incarnation by means of the virgin birth when two whole and perfect natures (Godhead and Manhood) were joined together in one person (see Article II); his human life was sinless (see Article XV); he died on the cross, was raised bodily from death and is now reigning over heaven and earth (see Article III and IV).
Sinful human beings are redeemed from the guilt, penalty and power of sin only through the sacrificial death of Christ their representative and substitute once and for all time. He is the only mediator between mankind and God. (see Article XV and XVIII). Those who believe in Christ are pardoned all their sins and accepted in God's sight only because of the righteousness of Christ credited to them; this justification is God's act of undeserved mercy, received solely by trust in him and not by their own efforts. (see Article XI)
The Holy Spirit alone makes the work of Christ effective to individual sinners, enabling them to turn to God from their sin and to trust in Jesus Christ. He lives in all those he has regenerated. He makes them increasingly Christ-like in character and behaviour and gives them power for their witness in the world. (see Article XVII).
The one holy catholic (ie universal) church is the Body of Christ, to which all true believers belong. (see Article XIX)
