Our Vision

St Peter’s Church GAP Vision Statement

April 2010

INTRODUCTION

St Peter’s Church is a part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. We exist to love and worship God, to submit to Jesus Christ as our Lord and King, to grow in faith and spiritual understanding, and to serve and witness to the parish and community of Waverton and the wider world. As an Anglican Church we recognise the full and final authority of Holy Scripture as the basis for all that it believes, summarised in the three historic Formularies of the Church of England - the Book of Common Prayer, the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion and the Ordinal.

WORSHIP (our corporate acts of worship)

We want our worship to be God-honouring and Christ-centred; reverent, edifying, heart-felt and joyful in tone; taking seriously Word and Sacrament; varied in liturgy and style, relevant, appropriately pitched to different ages and audiences, with opportunities for involvement; mindful of newcomers and visitors and attractive to them; global in scope.

FELLOWSHIP (building our relationships within the church family)

In all our activities, worship and service we want our fellowship to be designed for particular age groups and all ages our fellowship; to be vibrant, living, attractive, fun, and inclusive; to build up our faith, our Christian love and support for each other and our unity, but open to all.

PASTORAL CARE (Care for those in particular physical, spiritual or emotional need)

We want our pastoral care to be competent and caring, confidential and discrete, bible-based and prayerful; recognising the value of every church member and all human life; we want the systems to be well-coordinated and communicated with effective after-care; especially for the church family but extending to the wider community; often through weddings, funeral and baptisms; inclusive of all-ages.

DISCIPLESHIP (building our relationship with God)

We want our discipleship to be integrated, inspirational and educational, rooted in Scripture, relevant to the workplace and other daily circumstances, open to all and suited to various ages – including youth and children; we want to provide top quality resources and opportunities for training; we seek to cover at least basic topics like the character of God, the life, death, resurrection and future return of Jesus, the church, the Bible, evangelism, prayer, serving and giving, as well as seeking to tackle the tricky questions of life.

OUTREACH (building our relationships with the community)

We want our outreach to share and demonstrate the love of Jesus in effective, attractive, natural and sensitive ways; welcoming people from every age, race, background; through personal friendships and invitations; in church and village; through good effective publicity and increased profile; proactively offering services people need.

SERVICE (practical works of service - the structures that support our relationships)

We want to equip and enable all church members to fulfil their individual God-given gifts, time and talents to the service of God, offering training and workshops to help them in this. Our vision is for well-planned, reliable and caring works of service done in a spirit of willing and joyful selflessness. Done well it will be an expression of faith to the wider community.
