PCC

Summary of the PCC meeting held on 17th May 2010

Note – those items that are covered separately in the magazine are not reported fully

Jules welcomed Veronica Ireston and Darren Whibberley as new members of the PCC.

Rector’s Report - We have found a person for the vacant ‘House for Duty’ post in Aldford and Bruera.  Unfortunately, he is not able to start until June 2011.  However, Trevor Davies has kindly agreed to take on the role on a temporary basis until then and Jules thanked Trevor for his willingness to do so.

Attendance at 6.30pm service has dropped over the past year and Jules and June have reviewed the situation.  They both feel that the service should keep going and it is hoped that attendance will grow in time.

The Waverton Carnival Committee provided £200 towards the new tables and chairs purchased for Little Fishes.  Richard Gomersall has written to the Carnival Committee to thank them for their contribution.

Confirmation – The PCC discussed the age for a child to be confirmed and 12 years old was felt to be about right, to ensure there is a degree of understanding and awareness of the commitment being made.  It was acknowledged that discretion should be exercised around that age rather than having a strict policy.

Social Activities - The Social Committee organised a dance with live music by ‘Muzacks’ on Friday 14th May and a Coffee Morning on Saturday 15th May.  Both events were well supported and £846 was raised to support work with children in our church.  Jules thanked everyone involved for their hard work and energy.

The Rectory Garden Party will take place on Friday, 25th June. It will have a Country Fair flavour and the event will be used to raise funds for ‘Save the Family.’

The Sunday Club and St Peter’s Family outing to Llandudno will take place on July 17
th and everyone is invited to come along.

Jan advised that ‘Little Fishes’ is thriving and is enjoyed by all the toddlers, Mums and Dads, who attend.

Growth Action Planning (GAP) - Following the various GAP meetings the PCC discussed the wide variety of ideas that were documented and narrowed down some initial goals for us to focus on.   In future some of the other things discussed will be considered as we continue the path of development.  The initial focus will be on:

· Developing the family service – there was some discussion about changing the name to ‘All Age Service’, but it was decided that Family Service meant St Peter’s Family and we should retain that title for now.

· Developing our pastoral care, along similar lines to the ‘Office in a Suitcase’ model used at All Saints Church in Hoole.   Kath and June will get a group together to work on this.

· Looking at the entrance to the church to try and create a clearer and more welcoming space. Peter, Mike, David M-J and John Smith to investigate.

Quinquennial Report – The five year inspection of the church building has taken place and Peter presented a summary of the overall report, to the PCC.   Work is likely to be required on the roof of the church and a report has already been requested to establish the current state of repair and the remedial work that will be necessary.  Some of the windows are also likely to need attention with re-leading, improved protection and ventilation.

AOB - June advised that she is going to re-launch the Friday house group shortly.

Next PCC meeting: Monday 19th July, at 7.30 p.m.
